1st Annual Anything Goes Garage Sale, Flea Market, Swap Meet

This coming Saturday, the convention center in Grand Forks is holding the 1st Annual Anything Goes Garage Sale, Flea Market, Swap Meet in it’s main arena/convention area.

They had originally hoped to attract 200 people to set up. They stopped taking registrations several weeks ago when 347 people had registered because they ran out of room to put them.

I’m wondering how many hundreds of people will be waiting in line at 8 am Saturday morning when they open the doors to the public. Will there be some people who will actually camp outside the entrance Friday night so they can be one of the first few in line?

It should be an interesting event and it will also be interesting to see how it affects the general garage sale situation in town both this weekend and for the rest of the summer.

Normally this time of year there would likely be between fifty and sixty fresh sales starting this weekend, so it will be interesting to see how many people want to compete with this sale. It will also be interesting to see if that many people taking part in the event will dramatically decrease the number of sales we see throughout the remainder of the summer.

…Hahahaa!! I can only IMAGINE who might be the FIRST one in that line…!!! My own opinion (without really knowing the geographical ‘logistics’ OR the seller’s mindset up there right now…)is that NObody woyuld try to ‘compete’ with that HUGE sale/location…. I also think that it might be slow for 1-2 weeks after, but no real long-term (read as summer) effects… I ALSO think that you might have unwittingly added a few more ‘competitors’ TO that ‘line’, just from ‘advertising’ it here…!!?!?! GOOD LUCK !!

It likely won’t be me. I wouldn’t be surprised if some fanatic decides to spend the night outside the doors in a sleeping bag. It shoud be interesting though.

Right now my plan is if there are 20 or more other sales Saturday morning I’ll likely go to them first because I don’t there will be many others going to them first then. Then I’ll wonder over the the big one. If there are less than 20 I’ll probably go straight there.

Our local park district held a similar indoor garage sale/flea market in the park district gym a few weeks ago.
I signed up to participate, even though it was $30 for a space, hoping to sell some of my grandmother’s very fragile glass and china pieces that are too delicate to try to ship.
I also brought some dumb things of my own to get rid of (worthless mass market paperbacks, old shoes, etc.).
Even though my prices were much below book value, I didn’t sell one of Grandma’s pieces. Not one. Lots of lookers, but no buyers.
I sold some of my stuff, but at the end of the day, I was $3 short of making my table money back. Very disappointing.
