30 Days To A More Profitable eBay Business

Posted on 20 February 2006 by Gary H

If you’ve been reading The Auction Rebel for a while you may have noticed the survey feature in the left hand sidebar. Since adding this feature we’ve run two surveys with, what I think, are interesting results.

The first is that 54% of the people who took the first survey make less than $499 a month from their efforts on eBay. The second is that 42% of readers who responded list less than 10 items a week on eBay and an additional 5% normally don’t list any.

During the same period these two surveys were running I’ve noticed an increase in auction forum and newsgroup posts that seem to indicate a lot of eBay sellers seem to be in a slump - loosing their enthusiasm for eBay, slipping in the number of items they list each week, and in some cases talking about giving up the ghost completely.

In a way you could say The Auction Rebel blog has been suffering a similar problem. It’s been 19 days since the most recent post here and prior to that my posting frequency hadn’t been what it used to be either.

With this post I’m giving myself a kick in the butt as far as The Auction Rebel is concerned. I’d like to invite you to come along with me for the ride.

White it’s everyone’s prerogative to let their budding eBay business or dreams die, I hoping that along the way I can give some of you the motivation, along with some ideas you can implement, to get back your enthusiasm for eBay and begin building your eBay business to it’s full potential.

Beginning tomorrow, and continuing for the next 30 days, I’m going to be cranking up my posting frequency and you will find at least one post here each day that I’m hoping will help you either get your eBay business off the ground or to take it to new heights.

We will be taking a second look at a few ideas and tips already found here and adding plenty of new ones.

Along the way, I’m asking that you join in and actively participate. None of us know everything and I believe that each of you has an idea or two that you could share for the mutual benefit of everyone. I’m asking each of you to participate. You can do this in any of three ways:

1. I encourage you to make these 30 days a community effort. Leave your comments on the tips and ideas that are posted here. Sharing an idea or thought you get from a post can trigger more ideas and thoughts from others. If every one shares, we can all learn and become more professional and profitable sellers.

2. If you have your own eBay related blog or website and you’ve learned something useful that others would benefit from write about it in your blog or on your website and then email me (my email address can be found under “Contact Gary” under “Internet Links” at the top of the left sidebar) with the title and URL. Every day or two I’ll post summaries here along with links to the full article on your site.

3. If there’s a particular subject or idea you’d like to hear about either send me an email with your request or just leave a comment below. While I can’t promise every request will be answered, I’ll make every effort to see it’s covered.

All I ask are two things.

First, you don’t leave affiliate links in your comments. This is about coming together as a community and helping each other, not about making a buck of others. Comments either with affiliate links or those that are obvious spam will be deleted.

Second, please don’t email me with URLs to articles or blog posts you’ve written that are nothing more than blatant attempts to get people to buy a product through your affiliate link. I will not provide a link here to that type of post for the same reason given above.

I hope everyone will actively participate over the next 30 days and look forward to what we all can learn from each other.
