To Gary’s Family,
I want to extend our communities most sincere regrets at the early passing of a pioneer of ecommerce and eBay blogging. I am sure Gary was more than a blogger or an eBay seller in your eyes, but to many of us out here in the blogosphere he was an icon and a friend.
I never met Gary personally, but when I was starting my blog, the Trading Assistant Journal, I contacted Gary with several questions via email. He was always gracious with his replies and his time. I will not forget.
This is, I am sure way too soon for consideration, but after the shock of this tragic event has faded slightly and if there is any member of the family or a friend who would like to continue with the Auction Rebel website and blog, but may feel like they are just not up to speed with the technical stuff, I would be happy to spend some time with you via telephone to answer any questions I can about posting, or adding images etc.
You may contact me any time via my web development blog contact form, there will be no charge to help with either training to continue this site or to help you to manage its closure, I will be glad to do it!
My Most Sincere Condolences!

This is such sad news. Gary was a real inspiration, and the eBay world is a poorer place without him. My sympathies and thoughts to his family and all his many friends.

This feels kinda inappropriate, but I don’t know where else to say it:
I see Gary still has auctions running. If you need a hand closing them down, or doing anything else at all, please get in touch:

Reading Gary’s blog was bright spot in my day. I learned so much from him and his posts were always full of wisdom and good humor. When I saw the message in my inbox today, I thought to myself - great, Gary is back from his fishing trip. I enjoyed reading his posts and I’d missed them these last couple of weeks. What a shock to learn there won’t be any more posts from Gary. He will be missed. My best wishes and sympathy to Gary’s family.

…like everyone else, I’m surprised, shocked AND saddened by his passing… He was always SO upbeat about ALL aspects of auctions/blogging/collecting…NOT TO MENTION FISHING !!!! I’m glad that the ‘Divine Timing’ involved…allowed him that 1 last fishing trip….

My friends and I have followed you faithfully since we found you. You inspired and taught us well. More than a mentor we came to think of you as a friend. Many of us out here in cyberspace were lucky enough to have found you and in so doing made a lot of money. You will be missed our condolences to your family from our family.

Gary didn’t know it, but he changed my life. Thanks to him, in this blog, I began looking for books to sell on Amazon and learned how to sell there. Eventually, I wrote “Selling on ‘the River’” and that led to more things.
I am sincerely going to miss him here. He was such an inspiration to small sellers. Thank you Gary - for being a Rebel!

I was so sorry to hear this news. Gary was a great inspiration and a voice of reason to many.
I remember how I met him online I was furious with an eBay change and went looking for someone who would my rage. What I found instead, was a calm and respectful post here about the subject.
It was just the thing the eBay community needed to hear at the time. I’ve been a fan of the site since.
Gary will be missed.
