As I’d said previously, there are thousands of thousands of different types of self-produced tangible products being sold on eBay. They run the gamut from fashion accessories to oil paintings. From designer jewelry to fishing lures.
But there’s one kind of self-owned eBay product that stands out head and shoulders above all the others - “How-To” DVDs. You can find “How-To” DVDs being sold on eBay covering hundreds of subjects.
Want to know how to cork your own bat so you’ll be the home run king of your softball league this summer? There’s a DVD available on eBay.
Want to know how to differentiate a real antique Confederate sword from a counterfeit one? There’s a DVD available on eBay.
Want to know how to chop that 1950 Ford shoe box you just bought? There’s a DVD available on eBay.
Want to know how to operate, and get the maximum performance, from the new $900 digital camera you just bought? There’s a DVD available on eBay.
Need get your hands on contour maps/depth charts for every fishing lake in Arkansas? There’s probably a DVD available on eBay.
If you are going to sell your own product on eBay, this is the route to go. I know several people making $250,000, or more, a year selling the DVDs they’ve produced themselves via eBay auctions and eBay stores.
Yes, it takes an capital investment for equipment and a time investment to learn how to do it well. But once you’re in business your production cost per DVD is very small and profit per DVD can easily be $30, $40, or more.
And, there are thousands of untapped niches out there with people hungry for the information about thousands of products and subjects.
Need a few ideas to get started?
How about dog owners? Cat owners? Houseboat owners? Recreational vehicle owners? Owners of restaurants? Pouring your own driveway? Cooking the perfect romantic dinner? Learning to curl? Power skating for your son/daughter who plays hockey? How to play goalie in Soccer?
All it takes is a little imagination and the willingness to do the work needed to get into the DVD market on eBay and if you are going to take the “sell your own product” route this is definitely the way to go.
If this is something you want to explore seriously, I recommend a “How-To” DVD titled “Producing How-To DVDs For Profit” by Bill Myers. You can also find a wealth of articles covering the subject and an active discussion forum at Bill Myers Online.
