The mystery auction has been around for a while now but here’s an an interesting twist I feel is a good example of an innovative seller.
Others may have been using some of these techniques but this is the first time I’ve come across an auction similar to this.
Read the entire auciton description all the way through to the auction questions and answers and you will notice several innovative things the seller has done to attract more bidders and boost the final selling price:
- What the successful bidder actually receives is Dependant on how high the bidding actually goes. It starts with one item and expands as the bidding increases.
- To get the bidding started and to encourage bidding she offers incentives to bidders - free Tupperware gifts.
- The auction is continually updated throughout it’s 10 life cycle. When the bidding reaches certain specified levels the seller revises the description by including the additional that have been added to the auction.
- She’s succeeded in making the auction interactive by including questions about the items in the listing. The first person who answers each question correctly gets a gift.
- She encourages people to add her auction to their “watch list” increasing the possibility the auction will be listed in eBay Pulse.
Obviously this type of an auction isn’t practical for many things that are sold on eBay. But the auction does provide a good example of how some out-of-the-box thinking can dramatically affect the number of views, watches, bidders, and ultimately the final price your auction achieves.
