A look back at Paperpleasures46’s top ten eBay sellers for April provides a couple of insights.
First, I’d spent a lot of time in March running around to hockey tournaments, so I needed to get back into the eBay frame of mind and it’s taken a while go get moving again. I tell Arlene I’ve just been enjoying an extended mini-vacation. She tells me it’s because I’m staring my 60th birthday in the face in a couple months and I’m beginning to think I’m getting old.
Whichever it is, I thought we’d look at the top ten eBay sellers for April for Paperpleasures46 and maybe learn something from them.
With that in mind, here they are:

My best buy for last month was a box of old horses and dolls by Breyer and Hartland. I paid $20 for the box and put them in four auctions and got $550 for them.
But, I am not just in this for the money, I want items for my collection. I bought a 1931 American Flyer set that went right into the collection from one of my ads. The best collection find on eBay was a 1929 toy train accessory I bought for my layout. The seller had the original box for it, but hadn’t mentioned it or shown it in the auction. I could probably sell the box for about what I paid for the toy.

1. 1898 GERMAN Beer Stein REGIMENTAL Porcelain LONG PIPE (6624944686) sold for $154.49, I bought a lot of 5 of these pipes at a local auction for $27 each. I didn’t really know a whole lot about them, but my gut
told me they were worth more than $27 each!
2. 1908 MEXICO National Time Tables EL VALLE NACIONAL (6619186501) sold for $130.25, I bought a box lot of various railroad ephemera items from the same local auction gallery for $70. During the auction preview I identified 30 items in the box thai I estimated would
sell on Ebay for $25-$100
3. 1890s-1900s German REGIMENTAL Porcelain Stein LONG PIPE (6624941193) sold for $89.00, another pipe from the auction lot of 5 that I paid $27 each.
4. 1908 NY ROME/OSCEOLA Railroad CANVAS Engineer Route MAP (6621031348) sold for $77.00, another of the 30 items I identified that were part of the Railroad ephemera box lot
5. 1923 Delaware-Otsego NY BELL SYSTEM Telephone Directory (7237418754) sold for $67.66, I paid $4 each for three (3) of these early telephone directories. There was a weekend antique show in my area, and for $15
you could go to an “early Bird” session the Friday night before the show started Saturday. The $15 early bird pass was good ALL WEEKEND too!!
6. 1850’s WHITES UTICA NY Stoneware 2 Gal JUG Blue Slip Flower (7407977139) sold for $56.00, I got this at a yard sale with a bunch (maybe 20-30 items) of other stuff I paid $40 for Everything.
7. 1883 NEW YORK WEST SHORE/BUFFALO Railway Map ANTIQUE (6620290430) sold for $51.00, yet another item from that Railroad ephemera lot.
7. 1933 SANTA FE Indian Detours HOPI NAVAJO Map Kachinas (6620291012) sold for $51.00…still ANOTHER piece of railroad paper from that box lot I won at the auction for $70. The 30 items I identified cost just
$2.33 EACH!!
8. SEAGRAMS 7 Art Deco BAKELITE/CELLULOID Bar Clock Lamp (7233629255) sold for $50, being a sucker for advertising I gladly paid $5.00 at a garage sale, after I found it in a box behind some other boxes of canning jars. The seller didn’t even know it was there, let alone how much it was worth!!
9. 1880’s Antique WHITE IRONSTONE Wedgewood PITCHER Edwards BOWL (7408549918) sold for $46.99. This item never should have been purchased, because I didn’t fully preview it before I bid $40 and won it thinking I’d sell them for $125 to $175, but when I received it I relized two things, the bowl and pitcher weren’t a pair, and they were both damaged!!! I think my profit on this lot was $1.07
(Note: Remember NEVER bid on anything at auction without a complete inspection first!!)
10. RCA Selectavision Video Disc CED Player SFT 100 TESTED! (9718210618) sold for $41.00. I just bought three (3) of these vintage video disc players with about 150 different movie titles for 10% of what the seller originally wanted! This lot was one of the “Ebay Prices” garage sale, like Gary was talking about earlier. On Friday, the first day of the sale the guy wanted $50 each for the players and $1.50 per movie disc, I left him my card and went back on the following Monday and got EVERYTHING for $45.00…LOL!!
So there are my Top 10 Sellers for April, I wasn’t very busy last month, my daughter had her tonsil’s removed and we had to rush her back to the hospital for emergency surgery 3 days after the intial surgical procedure. I’m happy to report she is doing just fine now!!
May is the start of our garage sale season here in Upstate NY. I can get away from the auctions and get the REAL DEALS at all the townwide sales so common in our area. It’s gonna be a fantastic summer!!
GOOD LUCK EVERYBODY!!
