If you take a look at adult fiction best-seller lists, nearly every book you see falls into the mystery, thriller, horror, adventure, or romance category. Based on that, one would never know that one of the most popular adult fiction genres is religious/motivational fiction.
These books share several similar characteristics. Most, but not all, were published as mass market paperbacks. The authors, while popular within the genre, are mostly unknown to the average person. Many of the books are part of a series which may include anywhere from three to fifteen or more books.
This popularity presents a profitable opportunity to the astute eBay seller if they know where to find these books, what to look for, what to pay for them, and how to sell them for the most profit.
Let’s look at each of these individually and see how you can turn religious fiction into a profitable one for you.
Where can you find them? - The best places to find these are garage sales, thrift shops, book sales, and occasionally at auction and estate sales.
What should you pay for them? - Because garages sales, thrift shops, and book sales are fertile hunting grounds, it’s likely that most of the ones you find will be priced at $.50 or less. At that price I would recommend buying pretty much everything you come across. If priced higher than that, I would recommend you limit yourself to $.75 a book until you become familiar with the more popular authors and series.
What should you look for? - Thee are hundreds of different authors writing in this genre, but here is a list of some of the more popular authors. All these are worth buying.
- Al Lacy
- Ted Kekker
- Janette Oke
- Linda Chaikin
- Gilbert Morris
- Karen Kingsbury
- Lauraine Snelling
- Dee Henderson
- Ann B. Ross
- Beverley Lewis
- Jan Karon
- Francine Rovers
- Anita Stansfield
- Dean Huges
- Lori Copeland
- Debra White Smith
- Bodie & Brock Theone
- Wanda Brunstetter
- Michael Phillips
- Francine Rivers
- Rachel Ann Nune
- Terri Blackstock
How should you buy them? - Most of these authors wrote series of books made up of anywhere from two or three to fifteen or more titles. I strongly recommend that you become familiar with the make up of their various series and buy either complete, or near complete, series.
How should you sell them? - The key to selling adult religious fiction is to sell an entire series or sell them in mixed lots by author (although some mixed author lots will sell well to). If you find five books of a six or seven book series, hang onto them until you can get the missing ones. This approach will dramatically increase your profits. Lots of 40 to 60 mixed author lots often also sell well. The main thing is to group them together. Single volumes rarely sell for more than a dollar or two.

This is the kind of information, but in much more detail, that you will find in “Profiting From Garage Sales” when it is released in a few weeks.
