The $1000 A Month Thrift Store eBay Challenge - February Wrap Up

$1000 a month thrift store ebay challenge

The auctions for the final week of February’s The $1000 A Month Thrift Store eBay Challenge ended Monday night. During the fourth week of the Challenge, I had sixteen thrift shop items listed on eBay. Of the sixteen, eleven sold.

Here’s what my gross sales, expenses, and net profit look like for the fourth week and the tentative totals for the month. All the third week’s items have now been paid for, and all figures through the first three weeks are final. There are still two items that ended last night that haven’t been paid for. If both of them are paid for through PayPal, it will be necessary to deduct $1.53 from the total for the month.

Ended Sold Cost List Fees FV Fees PayPal Fees Incid. Fees Miles Net Profit
Feb. 5 $406.98 $25.25 $7.10 $14.79 $12.80 $0.00 $8.00 $339.04
Feb 12 $262.98 $20.00 $13.35 $10.90 $11.23 $0.00 $8.00 $199.50
Feb 19 $194.72 $16.50 $10.15 $9.27 $9.64 $0.00 $4.00 $145.16
Feb 26 $406.74 $39.30 $11.55 $16.71 $15.45 $0.00 $8.00 $315.73
Totals $1271.42 $101.05 $42.15 $51.67 $49.12 $0.00 $28.00 $999.43

As you can see, I didn’t quite make it to the magic $1000 figure for the second month in a row. If the two unpaid items are both paid for through PayPal, I’ll have fallen $2.10 short for the month of February. At the same time, my average for the last two months, which is $959.47, is short of $1000 also.

It’s been suggested that, since I’ve said that sellers should look at averages over a three month, six month, or longer period of time, I should continue the Challenge through March. Presently I’m undecided about that, because I’m not sure March would paint an honest picture since I will be entirely in college hockey mode from the 14th through the 17th for the WCHA Final Five Tournament in St. Paul. Also, unless the UND Fighting Sioux totally self destruct in the next couple weeks, I’ll be in either Denver; Rochester, NY; Manchester, N.H.; or Grand Rapids, Mich., for four or five days over the following weekend for the first round of the NCAA Hockey Tournament. That, plus the fact that I was pretty lazy last week, might make it pretty hard to come anywhere near $1000 for March. I’ll decide in a day or two.

Either way, in a month or two, the Challenge will be brought back but using garage sales rather than thrift shops.

    Hello Gary,

Sorry to hear about the loss of your father.
We have never met but I kinda feel like I know you from reading your blog.

Sometime back you mentioned a mystery subscriptions site.
Do you have any information to share at this time about the site?

Thanks again for all your help and great insights.

    Lee,

The membership site you are referring to went belly-up before it really got off the ground and provided much useful information or interaction between the members.

Basically, I just ended up being about $100 lighter in the pocketbook.

    Gary
