Upcoming US Postal Rate Increases - Will You Be Ready?

postal rate increases

On May 14, 2007 postage increases will go into effect in the US. Depending upon the kind of merchandise you sell on eBay, some of these increase could have a dramatic affect on how you do business. While the scheduled increases are pretty much across-the-board, there are two areas that could significantly impact your eBay business - rates for international shipping and larger Priority Mail packages that are shipped to a destination 600 miles or more from your location.

During the week of April 30 to May 4, the US Postal Service is sponsoring mailing seminars at locations all around the country.

The seminars will cove these subjects:

  • Learning how the shape of a package will influence rates
  • Review the changes in mail preparation for discount mailing
  • How will the new rates impact special services
  • More

A lot of what they cover will probably be targeted at larger businesses that are able to take advantage of bulk discount rates, but there will likely be some information provided that some eBay sellers will find useful also.

To attend one of these seminars, you must pre-register which can be done over the phone, and takes about two minutes. If you think you might be interested, check with your local postmaster or clerk and they should have the name of the local contact person and their phone number.

It’s always possible it will be a total waste of an hour or two, but I’ve registered for the seminar to be held here in Grand Forks.
