The $10,000 Garage Sale eBay Challenge - Week 12

Posted on 25 July 2007 by Gary H

$10,000 garage sale challenge

The eleventh week of The $10,000 Garage Sale eBay Challenge is now history with the auctions that ended on Sunday evening. There were eighteen Challenge items listed and thirteen of them sold for a total of $608.69. The sell-through rate was 72%.

This last week, once again, there were nowhere near as many sales as one would expect this time of year. Our wet weather from two weeks ago changed into, what for us, is a heatwave with temps in the mid to upper nineties most days. I’m guessing the people who didn’t want to get wet two weeks ago, didn’t want to sit out in the heat last week. It will be interesting to see how many there are this week because it sounds as though temperatures will be about the same for the rest of this week.

Similar to the previous week, last Saturday provided one garage sale where I purchased a large number of books for either $.25 or $.50 each that all went on Amazon. My total investment was $22.50 and the books were listed on Amazon for a total of $1237.83 with several listed at more than $100. A few have already sold
for a total of just a few cents under $475. Apparently I should have included Amazon when I began the Challenge.

Here’s how things look after the eleventh week is completed.

hi, how do you find all those cool books and old books? you mentioned you always ask before leaving if they have “more” this/that, or is it you are in a university town? thanks

  2. Gary H Says:

    Dean,

A few of them come from asking if someone has more stuff, but most of them just sitting there for sale.

All the books I mentioned buying this week came from one sale. Sugar beet farming is big in this area, and three of them were good sized books about raising sugar beets and a few more were about the sugar industry. Most of the other’s were agriculture related in one way or another.

It was advertised as a group sale, so I’m guessing one of the families raised beets and for one reason or another had decided to get rid of these books.

At other times, this being a university town helps some. The group of textbooks I bought at one garage sale last week for probably wouldn’t have been their if the U wasn’t here because I’m pretty sure the two young girls having the sale were students.

    Dean,

Gary also use a wonderful book scouting service called ScoutPal,it gives you the price(s) that a particular book sells for at Amazon.com!!

It is another bullet for your eBay inventory gun.
