Weekly Winners - August 7, 2007

Posted on 07 August 2007 by Gary H

ebay winners

Welcome to the first of what I hope will become a weekly feature of The Auction Rebel. Each Tuesday readers are invited to share their most profitable eBay auctions from the previous week with everyone.

The idea is to provide readers a venue to do a little bragging by sharing their eBay triumphs from the previous week. Hopefully, at the same time, others will be able to pick up some ideas for new things to keep their eyes open for.

The guidelines are pretty simple.

  • Use the comment section of each week’s Weekly Winners post to tell everyone about your winners.
  • Please limit yourself to four items a week.
  • I encourage you to include a link to the completed auction (if you don’t know how to do this, see below).
  • Share some information about the item with everyone - what it is, where you got it, what you paid for it, what it sold for, etc. Remember, links to closed auctions disappear after a few months, so the more you share regarding price, condition, item description, etc., the more useful your information will be to others once eBay deletes the item from their database.

To insert a hyperlink to your eBay auction simply insert the following code (with your auction URL and item name) whereever you want it in the comment box.

<a href=”CUT AND PASTE THE URL TO YOUR AUCTION HERE”>INSERT DESCRIPTION OF YOUR ITEM (i.e. 53 Dr. Suess Books)</a>

Gary, I’m happy to be the first reader to list my own Weekly Winners

For those of you who don’t know me, like Gary I’m a full-time eBay seller who makes 75% of my annual income directly from weekly listings comprised of merchandise scouted from local sales.

In addition I’m a registered eBay Trading Assistant and Education Specialist as well.

    Here is my Weekly Winner

65 FIRE KING MUG LOT Assorted Anchor Hocking FireKing SOLD…$435.99

I $ell hundred$ of dollar$ worth of Anchor Hocking Glass (mostly Fire King) every year, It’s really a big seller in Japan & South Korea so unless you’re willing to ship overseas your listings will never reach maximum $$$.

Regardless of where I go I can always find Fire King, cups, mugs, bowls, plates everything, so when I see it I pick it up, in most cases for $0.50 cents or LESS!!

This particular lot of 65 Coffee Mugs were purchased one at a time for $0.25 cents or less over a period of 12-18 months; 20-25% (appox.) weren’t Fire King; 3-5% (appox.) were in less than ideal condition as well.

    This auction produced…
60 Bids from 10 different bidders
    66 Individual “Watches” set
585 Unique hits for the 7-Day listing
300% Price Increase in 3 hrs.
Winning bidder is from South Korea

In addition to this Fire King lot I also sold…

4 JADITE Cup Saucer Sets FIRE KING Shell Dinnerware LOT; PAID: $5 - Sold: $122.50

20 FIRE KING - KIMBERLY Mug Lot Anchor Hocking FireKing; PAID: $5 - Sold: $83.09

FIRE KING JADITE LOT Shell Dinnerware Cup Saucer 4 SETS; PAID: $5 - Sold: $57.00

Gary, I’d like to wish you Good Luck with your “Weekly Winners” feature, I truly hope folks participate, as I look forward to learning what else I need to keep my eyes wide open for while I’m out scouting inventory!!

So, who’s gonna be next to share their own Weekly Winner?!?!

  2. Gary H Says:

    Stephen,

Congratulations on the lot of mugs!!

As you have already pointed out, in this case, plus many others, being ‘international-bidder friendly’ can dramatically increase how much an item will bring.

This is particularly true with things such as Fire King, Pyrex, battery operated toys, etc.

In my experience, collectors from Japan and other areas of the Far East are some the most polite and easiest to deal with on eBay. They are also fanatical in their collecting interests and have no qualms about paying the hefty shipping costs it takes to get heavy items to them.

    Gary H.

  3. Stephen A. Says:

    Gary,

I agree that international bidders in general, Japan specifically are very cordial and often pay within moments of the auction closing!!

Taiwan, Germany, Spain, Italy, Australia, France and Canada can also be added to my list of favorite international bidders too!!

On another note, I’ll be unavailable over the next 14 days as my family and I will be flying to California and spending time with friends and family.

I’ll get caught up when I return!!

I have spurts with ebay where I will sell a bunch and then drop off for a few weeks. I have been focusing recently on amazon, but last month I had a great experience on eBay. At local auction I picked up 2 danish moder folding chairs and a folding ottoman. When I got home I realized one seat was broken and since it was only $25 for all I put out for one of the pickers that come through the alley. The good chair with the matching ottoman I listed and the priced quickly jumped. Over 7 day auction 13 bids ended up $212.50. Danish Modern Folding Chair and Ottoman $212.50
