Weekly Winners - October 8, 2007

ebay winners

Once again, here is your chance to brag a little and share with other readers some of the items you sold on eBay last week. By contributing you will also be helping others broaden the scope of what they can be looking for when they are out on the hunt.

Remember, you don’[t have to have three or four-figure, mega-buck, items to participate. Did you sell something for $20 or $30 that you paid one or two dollars for? These are the week-to-week, bread and butter items, everyone needs. You are encouraged to share with other readers. By doing so you help everyone to learn.

Guidelines are the same as they were previously.

  • Use the comment section of each week’s Weekly Winners post to tell everyone about your winners.
  • Please limit yourself to four items a week.
  • I encourage you to include a link to the completed auction (if you don’t know how to do this, see below).
  • Share some information about the item with everyone - what it is, where you got it, what you paid for it, what it sold for, etc. Remember, links to closed auctions disappear after a few months, so the more you share regarding price, condition, item description, etc., the more useful your information will be to others once eBay deletes the item from their database.

To insert a hyperlink to your eBay auction simply insert the following code (with your auction URL and item name) where ever you want it in the comment box.

I discovered craft pattern books at an auction last year and they sold well enough that I keep looking for them. A couple of weeks ago I was on my way home from work and stopped at a garage sale, which I had no business doing, because my basement is full of stuff to sell. Anyway, I bought 480 plastic canvas, crochet, cross stitch and quilting pattern books for $25. Then I read Gary’s blog about Crochet Magic magazine. I was wishing that I had some. Well, I checked the box of pattern books and low and behold…there were 24 of them. I listed them last week, the auction just closed…are you ready? $87.27!!! Not too shabby!

BTW - I appreciate your insight Gary. I have found it very helpful. Maybe I will run into you around town someday.

    DK,

Congratulations on the Magic Crochet magazines!! I must be getting old and slow to have missed those. :)

You didn’t by chance get them at a sale somewhere around 1000 to 1300 block of Oak or S. 10th did you? That’s where I got the last batch of them I had, and just as I got there a fellow was leaving with a couple of boxes of various craft pattern magazines and books.

It was a Thursday evening of a four day sale and it was at the corner of 15th Ave. S and Oak. Very close to that location though. I took everything she had plus two boxes of craft kits. I paid $40-45 for those and won’t make as much money on them as the patterns.

I’m still pretty new at this, but thanks to Gary’s blog, I’m learning. By the way I’m glad your back Gary.

I have found that service manuals and owners manuals sell pretty well. I was quite suprised though when I paid .50 cents for this one and it sold for $31.

I also have great success selling college textbooks when I can find them. Generally pay an average of $1.00. Current editions sell for $50 - $75. Older editions sell for much less or won’t sell. Look for recent copyright dates that are within the last couple of years.

Here is an example of one I paid $1.00 for.

Well, let me add my “Weekly Winners” to the discussion…

    1. MOBO Mechanical “Bucking” Horse
    Cost: $0.00 Sold: $395.00

This item was a consignment item that I sat in my eBay store where it sold within 30-60 days and I received 60% of the after transaction profit!

I’ll say it agian, if you’re not selling stuff for other folks you’re leaving $$$ on the eBay table!

    2. KELLER Ink Co. Master Stoneware Advertising Jug NRMT
    Cost: $30.00 Sold: $255.00

This item was purchase from another of the little country auctions that are so common here in Upstate NY. The buyer is the grand-daughter of Mr. Keller the founder who the company is named after.

    3. DISNEY PLUSH TALKING TIGGER ADULT COSTUME - Small NRMT!
    Cost: $3.00 Sold: $103.50

This item was purchase from a garage sale near the end of the day, the seller was asking $5.00 and I asked would she take less, she accepted my offer of $3.00

    4. GILLETTE M4 Fat Boy 1-9 Adjustable Safety Razor
    Cost: $0.25 Cents — Sold: $51.00

This item was a purchase from a garage sale near the end of the day, the seller was asking $1.00 and I asked would they take less, my offer of $0.25 cents was accepted.

Here’s how I increased this items collector value…
This item was covered white with soap scum, hard water stains and other gunk. I simply soaked it in CLR for about 30 min. and it came out looking brand new, and shiny bright!

  6. dean.e Says:

Wow $50 for a old razor, who knew!

I sold last week a 81′ gibson les paul (prefer not to show url) for $2300 - best offer. Paid $1700.

I find about 4-5 of those types a month, sometimes less - wish more!

  7. iwant Says:

Stephen - I have a MoBO Horse - mine’s the older version that doesn’t steer. I got mine for free when I was buying trains. The guy wanted an extra $25 for the trains, I told him to throw in the horse and I’d do the deal. It’s been in my living room ever since. I also have a Mobo Toy-Toise.

Here’s my interesting for last week. I found an old electronics playset a few weeks ago. Nothing special - it sold on eBay for my 9.99 opening bid.

But it had four old ray-o-vac batteries in it. I listed two on eBay to see what they’d bring. $29.

I listed the second pair last week and the same bidder won them for $26. That’s $55.00 for four dead D cells.

The electronics set came with trains I bought years ago and got buried in my dad’s garage. I recently cleaned the garage out and found it. Didn’t want to throw it out, so I listed it on eBay. I found the batteries in it when I was taking the picture.

    2 dead D cell batteries

Don’t forget, People WILL buy garbage if you tell them why they need it.

  8. imouch Says:

….thanks for the great ‘winners’ !! That battery idea is outrageous…I HAVE had old batteries before…and just PITCHED them !!!! And that razor came out TERRIFIC !!!
