My name is Gary Hendrickson and I’m a full time seller making my living on eBay.
Back in 1998 I quit my upper level management job with a regional service company over a difference of opinion with my boss and needed some type of income to keep paying the bills while I looked for another job. At that time I’d never sold anything on eBay, but I had been buying and selling antiques and collectibles at flea markets, antique shows, and by mail order for about 20 years. I decided I’d try listing a few things on eBay to help pay the rent until I found another job.
Two months later, while still looking for a job, I made more on eBay than I’d every ever made in a single month in the 9 to 5 world. That was the end of my job search and I’ve been selling full-time on eBay ever since.
I was lucky because I had one advantage that most eBay beginners don’t have. In addition to having bought and sold antiques and collectibles off-line for over 20 years on a part-time basis, I’d been researching and specializing in small, highly active, niches within the antiques/collectibles field for 12 years. So, I didn’t so much start a new business as I simply moved an already profitable part time business from off-line to full time on-line with eBay.
I continue that research today, but have expanded it to include a variety of other products that can be purchased used from various sources and sold profitably on eBay.
Why The Auction Rebel?
The Auction Rebel began in 2003 as a newsletter meant to provides sellers with information they could use to become more successful on eBay and at the same time save them some money by pointing out just how ridiculous and useless much of the information about selling on eBay being peddled at the time really was.
The Auction Rebel has gone through several changes over the last six years to finally morph into it’s current format in 2005.
My approach to eBay is often different than what others use or recommend. This site’s primary purpose is to provide information that will help help others earn more, become more successful, and turn eBay into a lucrative full-time or part-time business, while at the same time sharing information with others.
