Now that your blog has been set up it is time to write some content for it.

Since the primary purpose of your blog will be at attract additional potential buyers to your eBay auctions or store, most of the content should be relative to what you specialize in or to specific items you are selling. There are two approaches you can take.

The first would be to write a post about one specific item you currently had on eBay. This kind of post might work best for eBay store items simply because store items tend to remain available for a longer period of time and the post would have a chance to attract more potential buyers. However, it can also be very effective for auction listings also. There have been numerous occasions when the winning bidder has sent me an email stating they found the item as a result of a search on one of the search engines that lead them to an article on one of my blogs.

Tom Murphy does a good job of using this kind of blog entries on his PGA-AUCTIONS blog. Here are just a couple of examples of this kind of post from Tom:

• A Nikon Camera Tom sold
• A vintage cruise ship menu

Notice in Tom’s post about the cruise ship menu that he mentions he has more of these. This one sentence will keep interested collectors coming back to his blog and his auction regularly so they know when the others will be listed.

In the second approach, rather than write about specific items you currently have list, you use the blog to establish yourself as someone quite knowledgeable about an areas you specialize in. A good example of this is Mike Fisher’s Antique Hoosier blog. While Mike’s blog isn’t very old, he is doing an excellent job of establishing himself as someone who knows about ephemera.

While Mike doesn’t always talk about specific items he has for sale, a lot of readers will follow the links to his eBay sales and end up bidding on something or bookmark his auctions to check back regularly.

Which technique you choose is up to you. The important things is to start adding content on a regular basis.
