Yesterday there was an auction in southern Minnesota that had several things I was interested in. My plan was to leave early Thursday morning and spend the day visiting some antique shops on the way down, spend the night, go to the auction, and drive back that night.
One of the stops on my agenda for Thursday was a new antique shop that had recently opened that a friend had told me had a lot of paper items and magazines. The shop was located in an old four story brick building in the middle of downtown in a town of about 7,000 people.
When I walked it was as though I’d just walked into a Hallmark store. The entire shop was filled greeting cards and the latest “collectible” from Enesco, Hallmark, and similar companies. I was greeted by a woman behind the counter and she asked if she could help me. I said I was looking for the new antique shop in town, but that I must be in the wrong building. She replied that I was in the right place, that all the antiques were in the basement and on the third floor. and asked if I was looking for anything special. The following conversation ensued:

Now that your blog has been set up it is time to write some content for it.
Since the primary purpose of your blog will be at attract additional potential buyers to your eBay auctions or store, most of the content should be relative to what you specialize in or to specific items you are selling. There are two approaches you can take.
The first would be to write a post about one specific item you currently had on eBay. This kind of post might work best for eBay store items simply because store items tend to remain available for a longer period of time and the post would have a chance to attract more potential buyers. However, it can also be very effective for auction listings also. There have been numerous occasions when the winning bidder has sent me an email stating they found the item as a result of a search on one of the search engines that lead them to an article on one of my blogs.

This is the sixth week of the Carnival Of eBay Sellers and, as usual, Tom Murphy has gathered together some interesting reads related to doing business on eBay.
It’s nice to see that gradually an increasing number of eBay bloggers are beginning to submit articles to be included in the Carnival. This week contributions came from:
Stormy Peters who contributed two articles - Buying Kids Cloths On ebay and The Secret Of Buying On eBay.
Lynn Cognito offered The Sales Aftermath: Beware Of PayPal Chargebacks. Lynn’s contribution got me thinking. I’ve been using PayPal since it’s conception and have never had even one charge-back from a customer.
Tom Murphy, the host of the Carnival Of eBay Sellers, also contributed an on topic article titled Keeping Track For Uncle Sam. Tom also did his normal excellent job of digging up some other interested eBay reading to fill out this weeks Carnival.

In a little more than a week it will be 2007 and people’s thoughts will begin to turn to those dreaded words - income tax. Are you ready? Or, will April 15th find you frantically shifting through piles of old receipts and invoices in a last minute effort to put your eBay house in order?
If you are serious about eBay, it is imperative that you also be serious about keeping accurate records of your eBay related income and expenses on an ongoing basis throughout the year. Having a system in place to keep track of these records, and keeping it up-to-date throughout the year makes for a lot less stress when tax time rolls around.
But, there’s an even more important reason for keeping accurate, up-to-date records throughout the year than just tax purposes.

Over the last two years I’ve been watching a fairly new collectible sub-niche on eBay gradually grow. This is an off-shoot of the typewriter ribbon tin niche and the sub-niche is typewriter ribbon boxes. You can find these at antique shops/malls, antique shows, and flea markets. Most dealers aren’t yet aware of what these boxes are selling for on eBay which means there is currently a window of opportunity for those able to take advantage of it.
I’ve put together a short six page special report, in PDF format, about typewriter ribbon boxes and am offering it to readers as a Christmas present in appreciation of your loyal readership.
You can download your copy of “The Typewriter Ribbon Box Special Report” simply by right clicking on the link below and saving the file to your computer.

You will need Adobe Reader in order to be able to read the special report. More than likely it’s already installed on your computer, but if it isn’t you can download the latest version at no cost.

I want to begin by saying this post was inspired by Darren Rowse’s Problogger Group Writing Project for December. The subject for December is Reviews & Predictions and The Auction Rebel contribution will be my predictions regarding some of the things we will see happen with eBay and the eBay community in 2007.
I will start off with two easy ones. I predict…..
1. The United State Postal Service, the United Parcel Service, and Federal Express will all raise their rates and make significant change to how rates are applied. We already know that the USPS has a rate increase scheduled to become effective in the first half of 2007. However, if the proposed new Dimensional Weight Pricing for Priority and Parcel Post mail is also approved, I predict the increase, combined with the additional time factor involved, will cause some sellers to shut down their eBay businesses.

Yesterday Bookfinder Journal released their list of the Top 10 US out of print books of 2006. While you aren’t going to find one of these books every week, they are worth remembering because any of them should bring a nice profit on either eBay or Amazon.
Plugging a few of the titles into Amazon’s search tool should provide enough incentive to print out the list and familiarize yourself with the titles of the ten books.

Search engine optimization is a subject many web site owners and blog publishers either completely ignore or become obsessed with. The smart ones find a middle ground and then concentrate on other aspects of their business, and that’s the approach I recommend you take.
In this article we will cover some simple things you should do now to let the search engines know you exist and then offer some additional ideas you can implement long term if you feel the need. Also, rather then make this extremely lengthy, I’m going to be offering a lot of links to information on Darren Rowse’s excellent ProBlogger blog. Darren is an extremely successful blogger and a lot more knowledgeable about this subject than I am. Most of the search engine optimization techniques offered here are free and all they take is a little time to implement.
Some basic search engine optimization steps you should take when you first set up your blog are:
