2009 Garage Sale Challenge

With the 2009 Garage Sale Challenge starting in about a month, I’ve set up the blog that participants will be using to share their progress and communicate with other participants.

I think I have it set up so that all participants can post to the blog but would appreciate it if a few people who plan on participating tested it for me to insure I have it set up properly.

If you would like to help out, here’s what you will need to do.

100+ Magazines You Can Find At Garage Sales & Sell In Lots For $50 Or More On eBay

Posted on 18 March 2009 by Gary H

selling magazines by the lot

Millions of magazines are offered by the box full each year at garage sales across the nation. Often they are priced at $.25 or less per magazine. Some of these magazines offer a huge opportunity for savvy eBay sellers who are able to separate the wheat from the chaff.

This special report contains a list of more than one hundred magazines that can typically bring $50 or more when sold in lots on eBay. This is not a “pie-in-the-sky” list of magazine that, with lots of luck, you may stumble across once in a lifetime.

Rather, it is a compilation of magazines, most of which have been published within the last 30 years, that you can find with regularity at garage sales. Many of the titles included in this report also appear regularly at thrift stores and book sales.

Blueprint Magazine - Martha Stewart’s Failure Equals Your Success

Posted on 15 March 2009 by Gary H

Blueprint Magazne

Martha Stewart’s Blueprint magazine is another recent publication that you will likely see at garage sales and thrift stores this summer.

The premiere issue of Blueprint magazine was the Summer 2006 issue. The magazine was not a huge hit, and after the January/February 2008 issue the magazine ceased publication. During that time only eight issues were published.

Although Blueprint magazine never gained the subscriber base to make it a successful publishing venture, it still has a big enough audience that it is still worthwhile picking up copies at garage sales.

Although individual issues don’t attract much issues complete runs of all eight issues bring between $35 and $50 on eBay. Smaller lots of three to five magazines will usually bring somewhere around $5 an issue.

Goodbye Domino Magazine - Hello Cash

Posted on 13 March 2009 by Gary H

Domino Magazine

Domino magazine is an excellent example of a magazine you have a good chance of finding at garage sales or in thrift stores that can be extremely profitable when sold on eBay.

Domino magazine, published by Conde Nast, first appeared in April 2005 with a Spring/Summer Premiere issue. The magazine’s tag line, “A Guide To Living With Style” described the overall content of the magazine - interior design.

In January of this year, Conde Nast announced that the March 2009 issue would be the last issue. During the four years between 2005 and 2009 a total of 28 issues were published.

The 2009 Garage Sale Challenge - Help Me Decide

Posted on 09 March 2009 by Gary H

2009 Garage Sale Challenge

Even though the long range weather forecast says we could get as much as another 30″ of snow here this winter, garage sale season will be in full swing in less than two months. That means it’s time to start thinking about this year’s Garage Sale Challenge.

Similar to last year, this year’s Challenge will run for five months from May 1 to September 30.

Several of last year’s participants, along with several other readers, have expressed interest in participating this year and there could be quite a few more participants this year if a majority of them take part.

Last year I used a free blog service for the actual Challenge blog. Overall, it worked okay, but people had to jump through a few hoops in the registration process. Also, as some of those who participated know, some people had problems with the way the blog formatted the tables they used to show their weekly progress.
