Would you like to keep up-to-date with the latest posts on The Auction Rebel?
The Auction Rebel provides two options by which you can subscribe to this site and receive up-dates each time a new post is added. Both options are part of our RSS feed. But what is RSS?
What Is RSS?
RSS stands for ‘Really Simple Syndication’. Many people describe it as a ‘news feed’ that you subscribe to.
Simply put, RSS is a technology that is used by millions of Internet users around the world to keep track of new content on their favorite websites. In many ways, it’s a replacement for ‘bookmarks’ but with added conveniences such as:
- It transfers the work from you, the web surfer, to the blog, or other site, you are interested in
- It greatly simplifies the process of trying to keep track of new content on multiple sites
- It insures you don’t miss important information because you forget to check your bookmarks
- You don’t keep seeing the same old information every time you visit favorite sites that don’t frequently up-date their content
- RSS offers a means of getting relevant and up to date information sent to you for you to read at your leisure. It saves you time and helps you to get the information you want quickly after it was published
How To Use RSS
If you are going to start keeping up-to-date with sites you will first need to get a RSS reader. There are many readers around with various features, however, a good place to start is with either Google Reader or Bloglines. (I currently use Google Reader but have used Bloglines in the past.) Both are free and easy to use.
Both of these Google Reader and Bloglines work somewhat like email. As you subscribe to feeds you’ll see that unread entries from the sites you’re tracking will be marked as bold. As you click on them you’ll see the latest update and can read it right there in the feed reader. You are given the option to click through to the actual site or move onto the next unread item - marking the last one as ‘read’.
Three other options you may already be familiar with are MyYahoo, MyGoogle and MyMSN.
Subscribing To Feeds
The easiest way to learn to use either of these is to simply subscribe to a few feeds. Both have excellent help sections to get you started.
Subscribing is fast and easy. You have probably already noticed little buttons, or links referring to RSS feed or ATOM feeds on most blogs or web sites. The most commonly used is the small orange and white button similar to the one found at the top right corner of The Auction Rebel.
Simply clicking on this button will take you to a page offering quick subscription links to numerous RSS readers.
Don’t Want to Mess With RSS Readers? Email Subscriptions Are The Other Option
If all of the above sounds like a little too much hassle, don’t worry.
The Auction Rebel also offers an option allowing you to subscribe via a more familiar means - email. Actually, this is the most popular subscription method used by The Auction Rebel readers, with two of every three subscribers opting for this method.
By using the email option provided you will receive one daily email containing the full text of the post added to the blog that day. If there is no new content on a particular day, you don’t receive an email. You can unsubscribe at any time and your email will be kept private and not used for any other purposes than to send these daily updates.
You can subscribe to The Auction Rebel email feed simply by clicking on the ‘Subscribe To The Feed Via E-mail‘ link at the upper right corner of any page on the blog.
I hope this answers any questions you may have about our RSS feed subscriptions.
